Interview with Alexander Butenko

13 April 2018

Two weeks after the loss in the title fight against Alexey Kunchenko at M-1 Challenge 90 Alexander Butenko shared his thoughts on that fight and the plans for the future.

Actually there were no surprises for me in the fight against Alexey Kunchenko. Alexey as always was very well prepared for the fight both technically and physically. Our plan was to take him down and control on the ground, but he expected that and was ready for that.
In the second round I missed a huge body shot and since that moment I could not move a lot, so it affected my performance. But the words now won’t change anything, what has happened has happened. Of course I’d like to have a rematch and I will be looking for an opportunity to get it.
There are many tough opponents in welterweight like for example Sergey Romanov, Shavkat Rakhmonov, Juho Valamaa. All of them are strong and being honest I do not have any preferences who to fight. The only guy I would not like to fight is Danila Prikaza, because he is a good friend of mine.
So I’ll be waiting for a call from the matchmakers and when the fight comes, I will be ready!
